On Tuesday 5th October 2010 Richard and Rob took part in an auction over the phone to purchase the Brian Thomas collection. The purchase of this collection was the culmination of many years of hard work hoping to own or participate in the development of a 500cc race bike based on the work already done by Brian.PGS_4222

Very soon after this it was decided to go all out and purchase another Manx Norton which had become available. The purpose of this was to enable them to get into the classic bike racing scene in New Zealand straight away. This bike had also been for sale at the Webb’s auction on 5th October but had not achieved its price. After some discussions with John Marsh a price was decided upon and the purchase made.

This bike was advertised as “The Grey Imminence” and is a 630cc machine which is unusual in itself. It was built by Andy Molnar and has been suggested it was originally intended to power a sidecar outfit.

So! A loosely structured plan of action was needed – however planning and following through is sometimes a tough task in the business of 24 hour service in the main business of R&R Performance Engineering Ltd – which is dairy industry manufacturing and maintenance.

With assistance from John Marsh the bike was prepared for the first outing, a willing and more than able rider was roped in – Peter Tanner – and the first race meeting attended. This was Spring Classic Meeting at Taupo in 2011.
